A recurring fitness subscription program is a structured offering that enrolls clients in a regularly updated program, where workouts, habits, and resources are delivered on a shared timeline. Every client, regardless of their sign-up date, follows the same program with synchronized progress. For example, in a monthly subscription program, clients might receive new workouts every four weeks, gain access to a private group chat, and have shared content and progressive habits- all creating a cohesive, community-driven experience.
This type of subscription can be a stand-alone offering for new clients or serve as a transition plan for existing clients moving from a premium program to ongoing app access.
In this article, we will walk you through how you can set up your own recurring fitness subscription program using Master Programs and Groups.
How to Set Up a Recurring Fitness Subscription Program
To bring a subscription program to life, follow these three key steps:
- Create your Master Program
- Build a Group and Attach the Master Program
- Provide Ongoing Updates to the Master Program
1. Create Your Master Program:
Start by creating a Master Program that includes scheduled workouts, cardio and any habits that you want all clients to follow.
- Go to Master Libraries > Programs > New
- Give your program a name and select a "Phased Training Program". Begin by adding only the first training phase.
- You can now add and schedule workouts, messages, and anything else you need for the first training phase to be ready. For detailed steps on creating training phases, check out the article here.
2. Build a Group and Attach the Master Program
Using the Groups feature and linking your Master Program will ensure all clients progress on the same timeline.
- Go to Groups > New to build a brand new group
- Choose a group icon, set a group name, and select posting permissions. The posting permissions will not change the ability to run this type of program (e.g., allowing anyone to post will not impact program delivery).
- Attach your Master Program to the group by clicking the three-dot icon next to your group and selecting Attach Master Program. Find your subscription program and choose a start date. Note: This start date will be the same for all clients added to the group. When a client joins after the start date, they will be on the same phase and schedule of the program as all other members
- You can now add members to the group. The attached Master Program will added as an add-on program for clients with the start date assigned. To bulk add members to the group, refer to our How to Bulk Assign Actions for Clients article.
Tz Tip: You can also access the group settings to adjust Auto-posting in Groups to align with your posting and client experience preferences.
3. Provide Ongoing Updates to the Master Program
Now that you have your members in the group you will need to come back and add training phases to your Master Program before the next training phase begins.
- Navigate back to Master Libraries > Programs > Select your subscription program.
- Below the latest training phase select +Add next > Choose the length and name of the new phase > Select Save.
- Just as you did in the first phase, you can schedule workouts, messages, and anything else you need for the next training phase to be ready. For detailed steps on creating training phases, check out the article here.
- Updates will automatically sync with clients calendars, ensuring a seamless progression into each new phase. Repeat this update progress before the end of each phase so that your clients always receive their new workouts and scheduled events.
Tz Tip: If you want to seamlessly onboard new clients automatically into the group with the linked program access, try using our Product Automation tools.
