Exercise Notes allow both clients and trainers to log key details about an exercise directly within a workout.
They help clients track important context such as machine settings, band colours or performance feedback, while allowing trainers to add instructions and guidance for each exercise.
Common examples of Exercise Notes include:
- Equipment setup (e.g., seat height, bench angle, machine settings)
- Weight or progression cues (e.g., increase to 25 lbs next time)
- Technique cues (e.g., slow eccentric, keep chest up)
- Workout preferences (e.g., start with weaker left leg)
- Physical feedback (e.g., shoulder felt tight at this weight)
- Accessories used (e.g., light resistance band, yoga block)
How to Add an Exercise Note
Exercise Notes can be created on the mobile app before starting a workout (i.e., while previewing it) or during an active workout.
To add an Exercise Note:
1. Open or start a workout on the ABC Trainerize mobile app.
2. Locate the exercise and tap the notepad icon beside the exercise.
3. Enter text for the Exercise Note (up to 200 characters).
- To use Exercise Notes most effectively, keep notes short and actionable.
- Only update an exercise note as the exercise setup or performance changes.
- Always include specific details (i.e. weights, positions, cues) and add dates if helpful for context.
4. Tap Save in the top right corner.
When a note is added, it is saved within the current workout and will automatically show in all past and future workouts that include the same exercise.
Viewing Exercise Notes In A Workout
Both trainers and clients can view Exercise Notes within a workout:
- A preview will appear directly under the exercise.

How Exercise Notes Work
Exercise Notes are designed to be simple, consistent, and easy to reference across workouts.
Exercise-level notes: Notes are tied to a specific exercise, not a specific workout. The same note will appear anywhere that exercise is used, across different workouts and programs.
Viewing permission: Both can view and update the same note.
Real-time updates: Any changes apply instantly across all workouts where the same exercise is used.
Single note per exercise: You can continuously update one note, but cannot create multiple notes.
Text-only: Notes do not support images, videos, or attachments.
Notifications: Adding or editing a note does not notify either trainers or clients about the update.
Cannot save empty notes: You must enter text or delete the note completely.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add Exercise Notes to custom exercises?
Yes. Exercise Notes are available for both custom exercises as well as Trainerize exercises.
Do notes carry over to future programs?
As long as the same exercise is used, the note will appear across all workouts and programs.
Who can see and edit Exercise Notes?
Both trainers and clients can view and update the same exercise note.
Can I create multiple notes for one exercise?

No. Exercise Notes do not store version history. Each update replaces the previous note.
What happens if a note us deleted?
