ABC Trainerize organizes clients into different client types throughout the platform. These types determine where clients appear in the client grid, what level of access they have, whether they count toward your coaching client limit, and what actions trainers can perform with them.
Some client types are manually assigned when adding clients, while others are automatically created through workflows such as bookings, product purchases, integrations, or account limitations.
In this article, we’ll explain how each client type works and how they differ from one another.

Main Client Types
When adding a client to ABC Trainerize, either manually or through product automation, you can select from four primary coaching client types:
- Full Access (2-Way Messaging)
- Full Access (1-Way Messaging)
- Offline
- Basic
Full Access (2-Way Messaging) Clients
- Can log into the app
- Have access to all coaching features
- Can send and receive messages with their trainer
- Can track workouts, habits, nutrition, progress, and more
These clients automatically receive an invitation email to create their account and download the app.
Full Access (1-Way Messaging) Clients
- Can log into the app
- Have access to all coaching features
- Can receive messages from their trainer
However, clients cannot reply or initiate messages with their trainer.
These clients automatically receive an invitation email to create their account and download the app.
This option is commonly used for businesses that want to limit incoming client communication while still providing full program access.
Offline Clients
Offline clients are designed for trainers who coach clients without providing app access.
- Cannot log into the app
- Cannot access coaching content directly
- Do not receive invitation emails
- Still allow trainers to track workouts, progress, measurements, and client data internally
Offline clients still count toward your coaching client limit. For more information on Offline Clients, visit: What Are Offline Clients and How to Work Best With Them
Basic Clients
Basic clients are limited-access clients that do not consume a coaching client seat. Unlike other coaching client types, Basic clients appear in their own Basic clients area within the client grid because they function differently from standard coaching clients.
Basic Clients Cannot:
- Access Messenger or Groups
- Receive training programs
- Track workouts, cardio, meals, sleep, or body stats
- Be assigned directly to a trainer (only to a location)
Basic Clients Can:
- Book appointments
- Attend video appointments
- Use the water tracker
- Access their Dash, Calendar, and My Account sections on web
- Purchase products through Stripe Integrated Payments
- View transaction history

Additional Client Types
In addition to the main assignable client types, there are other client categories that are automatically created through workflows and account activity.
These client categories are not selected adding a client manually or through product automation. Instead, they reflect a client’s current status within your sales, onboarding, or coaching workflow.
These categories include:
- Prospect
- Pending
- Deactivated
- Trial Clients
Prospect Clients
Prospects are potential clients or leads who have not yet become active coaching clients. They appear in the Prospects folder of the client grid.
A prospect client:
Can be created manually by trainers or staff or through a Prospect Booking Link.
- Do not count toward coaching client seat limits
- Can later convert into coaching clients
Pending Clients
Pending clients are clients who have entered the system but are not yet active coaching clients. They appear in the Pending folder of the client grid.
Pending status usually occurs when a client cannot fully activate due to account or workflow conditions. Clients may become pending when:
- A client has purchased a product but your account has no client seats available
- Membership controls is blocking activation
- Stripe payments are paused or incomplete
Pending clients are non-activated clients that do not have coaching access. They required manual activation to active coaching clients.
Deactivated Clients
Deactivated clients are former coaching clients whose access has been removed, either through automation or manual deactivation. They appear in the Deactivated folder of the client grid.
A deactivated client:
- No longer counts toward your coaching client limit
- Cannot log into the app
- Retains historical client data including: messages, programs, progress photos, check-ins
- Can be reactivated at a later date
For more information on reactivating a deactivated client, visit: How to Deactivate and Reactivate Clients
Trial Clients
Trial clients are clients who have purchased a Trial product. They use a Full Access coaching seat during the trial and display a trial tag in the client grid.
Trial clients are automatically downgrade to Basic once the trial product ends.
