When using the ABC Trainerize mobile app during a workout, music will continue playing in the background as expected.
Music is only affected when you tap on an exercise and play its video. When a video begins playing, the app prioritizes video audio, which may pause or stop your music. In some cases, music may not resume automatically after the video ends.
This behavior depends on your device (iOS vs Android) and the type of video being used.
When Does Music Stop or Change?
Music playback is only impacted when viewing a custom exercise video during a workout.
To access an exercise video during a workout:
- Start a workout in the ABC Trainerize mobile app.
- Tap on an exercise to view more details.
- Tap the video thumbnail to start playback.
Once the video starts, your music may pause or stop depending on your device and video type.
Audio Behavior by Device and Video Type
iOS Devices
Custom Exercise Videos:
- Music will pause when the video starts
- Music will automatically resume when the video is closed or finished
Youtube Videos:
- Music will pause when the video starts
- Music will not resume automatically after the video ends
Android Devices
All Exercise Videos (Custom or Youtube):
- Music will stop when the video starts
- Music will not resume automatically after the video ends
Interval Timer Audio Behavior
During interval workouts, the countdown timer will temporarily lower (duck) the volume of any music playing in the background.
- Music will continue playing while the timer is active
- Volume will return to normal after the timer cue ends
Why Does this Happen?
This behavior is due to how iOS and Android manage audio when multiple media sources are used at the same time.
- Exercise videos take priority over background audio
- YouTube videos follow stricter playback rules that prevent automatic audio resuming
- Android devices typically stop background audio completely when video playback begins
