Although Master Programs and Groups are two distinct features, they work best when used together! Groups create a sense of community and accountability, while Master Programs ensure every member follows a structured training plan. Using them together helps you efficiently manage larger cohorts, challenges, or teams.
Using Groups and Master Programs Together
There are two main ways you can use a Group and a Master Program together:
1. Attaching a Master Program to a Group
When you attach a Master Program to a Group, you are prompted to select a start date for the program. This means that all clients in the group will be subscribed to the program on the same day, following the same schedule and workouts.
- Once the Group is created and a Master Program is attached, any clients added to the Group will automatically be subscribed to that Master Program.
- You only need to add clients to a group and the program is assigned automatically.
This setup is ideal for:
- Fitness challenges or bootcamps
- Cohort-style or intake-based programs
- Athletic teams or sports clubs
- Signature programs you coach live
2. Add Clients to a Group (and Assign Programs Separately)
If you prefer clients to complete programs at their own pace (and on a different start date), you can simply add clients as members in the Group and assign their Master Programs individually.
- Each clients has their own start date
- The Group is only used for messaging, posts and engagement.
This setup is perfect for:
- Ongoing support or accountability groups
- Fitness communities (e.g., Strength Training, Yoga, Running, etc)
- Clients following different program types or start date.
How to Attach a Master Program to a Group
Follow the steps below to attach a Master Program to a Group so all members can follow the same workouts and schedule together.
1. Create a Master Program
- Build the Master Program you want all Group members to follow at the same time.
- Group Master Programs can be either phased or on-demand programs.
2. Create a Group
- Next, create the Group that will host your clients.
- You can customize the group name, group icon and group settings to match your new community.
- For detailed steps on creating a new group, visit our help article here.
3. Assign the Master Program
- Once both the program and group are created, it's time to link them together.
- Click the three-dot menu next to the Group name and select Attach Master Program.
- After selecting a Master Program, set a start date for when the program will begin.
Once attached, the start date chosen will determine when all group members will begin the program. All clients current in the group, and any clients added later, will automatically be subscribed to this program starting on that date.
Understand Master Program Logic in Groups
When using Groups with Master Programs, it’s important to understand how program subscription logic works to avoid accidental removal or programs or conflicts.
-
A client can only be subscribed to one instance of a specific Master Program at a time.
-
If a client is already subscribed to a Master Program and is then added to a Group that uses the same Master Program with the same type (Main or Add-on), they will be removed from the group.
-
Likewise, if you add a client to another Group that is linked to the same Master Program with the same type (Main or Add-on), they will be removed from their existing group.
In short, clients can only have one active copy of the same Master Program at a given time. Adding them to another instance of the same program (Main or Add-on) will remove them from the Group if there is a conflict.
Example scenarios:
-
If a client is in a 30-Day Challenge Group linked to your Beginner Strength Program (Main) and you manually subscribe them to Beginner Strength Program (Main) again, they’ll be removed from the Group automatically.
-
If they’re added to a new Group that also uses Beginner Strength Program (Main), they’ll move to the new Group and leave the old one.
Keep this in mind when managing clients across multiple Groups or products to prevent confusion or lost access.
