(STEP 2/3) How to Create a Product

Products are the unique fitness (and nutrition) services you want to sell. You can build as many as you like and all of them can be managed from the Products page in Payments. There are many options to customize your products, with three sections to go through: Basic Details, Online Sales, and Automation.


Step 1: Basic Details

  1. In Payments, go to the Products page.
  2. If this is your first product, click Create A Product. If there are existing products, click the + New button in the Products Grid toolbar.
  3. In the dialog pop-up on the Basic Details tab, start building a product by adding a unique name and a detailed description:
    • This will be visible to potential clients and will help them understand what’s included in the product.
    • You can also add a product image to better market your services and entice potential clients.
  4. Depending on how you would like to charge for your training services, you can choose from three payment methods (see the Recurring vs. One-time Upfront table below for their differences):
    • One-time upfront
    • Recurring (e.g. $100 per month until client cancels)
    • Recurring with an end-date (e.g. $100/month for a total of 4 months)

Note: Once a product has been created, the payment type cannot be changed.

Optional: To create a product with a fixed start date, select the "This is a bootcamp/intake product (the product start date is fixed)" option under the description box. If your product start date is not fixed, move on to the next tab, Online Sales, where you will have more options to choose a start date.


Step 2: Online Sales

  1. On the Online Sales tab, control how your products are purchased. Switch the toggle to "ON" for Trainerize.me to list the product there for new or existing clients to browse and purchase. Switch to "OFF" if you want to hide the listing from Trainerize.me.
  2. With the Payment Link, you can share and embed a direct payment link to the product to market it anywhere you’d like.
  3. If you haven't set a fixed start date for the product, you can choose between two different options:
    • Date of purchase: It will start on the same day as the purchase.

Next week after purchase (Monday): This option is ideal for lining the product up with the start of a program.


Step 3: Automation

Thanks to powerful built-in automation, you can set up a series of actions that you want to happen automatically when a client purchases a product and when that product starts!


On purchase of first product for new clients:

These actions will trigger immediately when a new client purchases a product for the first time from your Trainerize.me page. This is useful for when the purchase date may not be the same as the product start date (e.g. pre-sales for a New Year's bootcamp). Use these actions to build a pre-start experience:

  • Assign the client to a trainer.
  • Subscribe the client to a prep program while waiting to start.
  • Add the client to a non-training group.


On product start date for all clients:

These actions will trigger on the client's product start date. This is useful for automating the delivery of programs and training groups, as well as spreading the client workload across multiple trainers automatically. Choose from the following actions:

  • Assign the client to a trainer.
  • Set up the client's training program by:
    • Subscribing the client to a program.
    • Adding the client to a training group (which is subscribed to a program).
    • Copying a program to the client's account (their own custom version).
  • Add the client to a non-training group.
  • Change messaging options (1-way or 2-way)

Note: The result of these automated actions are not tied to the purchased product. If you remove the product from the client after the actions have run, the automated actions will not be undone (e.g. the client will not be unsubscribed from the program).



Automation Overlap


If you've defined actions for both purchase date automation and product start date automation, you may be wondering what will happen when someone purchases a product that starts on the same day? The two forms of automation are combined and wherever there's a conflict, the product start date automation takes precedence.


Purchase Date Automation:

  1. Assign client to Trainer Dave.
  2. Subscribe client to prep program "Basic Training".
  3. Add client to non-training group "Beginners".

Product Start Date Automation:

  1. Assign client to Trainer Jane.
  2. Subscribe client to program "30-Day Strength Challenge".

Automation End Result:

  1. Assign client to Trainer Jane.
  2. Subscribe client to program "30-Day Strength Challenge".
  3. Add client to non-training group "Beginners".


Since actions (1) and (2) conflicted between purchase date automation and product start date automation, the automation actions from the latter group took precedence. Since action (3) did not conflict with anything, it was kept.
